So Marc isn’t the only member of the Sole Cycling Team that likes to go racing. I first met Marc whilst taking part in the Triathlon National Relays a few years ago racing with West Country Triathletes and on Sunday I have my first triathlon of 2016 in Clevedon Marina. Whilst Marc is just a few years younger than me and twice the speed, I usually like to plod along doing the longer Half Ironman distances (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run) but with a brand new event just a few miles up the road I couldn’t resist. However I do find these shorter ‘Sprint’ distances much harder as everyone is so fast!

The last time Blue Roo (yes my bikes all have names) raced was at the Stafford Half Ironman last June, so I’ve had to make sure that she is ready to race – so I’ve done my ABC and a bit more to ensure that all the hours I’ve spent training don’t go to waste. As for me, I’m not sure that I will ever feel ready…. I’ve swim in the Marina a few times now and got used to the landmarks. The bike and run routes were sent out last weekend, but I’m not going to have time to look at them before the race. I’ve struggled to run recently having slipped off a kerb whilst demonstrating to the children at Golden Valley School back in March and my ankle still hurts, but hoping that my cycle fitness will see me through the 5km run.

Now the nerves are kicking in. I always get very nervous before a race and especially as its been over 9 months since I last pulled on a tri suit. Hoping that the wind drops and perhaps the sun could come out….??
